What they say: Jessica is an ordinary girl who comes across extraordinary circumstances and pays for them with her life. As well as identifying her body, her brother Simon then has to wind up her affairs but gets more than he bargains for. Who is Alexis, and why are Veronica and Daniel searching for her? Why is there a roll of cash in Jessica’s house, and what’s the connection between his sister and Alexis?

The Review:You may remember my gush on The Serial Dater’s Shopping List from someone I pretty much fangirl at this stage (am I using that phrase correctly?!?!)  You can read it here. Seeing this, and knowing it was a different genre, I have to admit I worried, but I needn’t have.

This is the story of Jessica, who seems to have an everyday existence until she dies, and suddenly, on finding a wad of money and having strange conversations, her brother realises he knows nothing about her.

The book is written in short bursts with multiple povs which drove you from chapter to chapter, character to character. You start, aptly enough, with a character that is pivotal ( sadly for him) to all of this.

All of the characters were players in this book, and I loved the way you didn’t always know how and so were running after them to listen to their story then deftly sidestepping to the next. I also loved that they talked to each other and confided in each other ( too often in books you have people not saying what needs to be said or unable to reach a character to add intrigue, but, although sometimes it works brilliantly, a lot of the time I just find it unrealistic and irritating!).

I warmed to so many of them and felt for them , although weirdly enough, what constantly returns to me is Jessica’s final moments. A nice, short, easy going, all encompassing, gripper of a book that I most definitely savoured and enjoyed. Oh, and it’s £0.99 at the mo!! Thanks so much to Sarah at Book On The Bright Side Publicity & Promo  for this book in return for an honest review.
