What they say: Christmas is coming to Port Hewer and the hotel Penmarrow, where Maisie is suffering a case of the holiday blues far from home this year — until Gavin, a young American businessman staying at the hotel through Christmas, talks her into joining him as his partner in the hotel’s ice sculpting competition in a mutual pact to enjoy the holidays to the fullest.

Meanwhile, Maisie experiences the village Christmas season vicariously through Sidney, and continues writing her Poe-inspired story with only Sidney aware of her secret novel. She soon learns, however, that criticism and praise go hand in hand when he takes issue with her latest chapters, which puts pressure on their friendship, too.

But is that what’s really the issue between them? Because handsome Gavin has more than ice sculpting in mind when it comes to Maisie’s time, which comes as a surprise to no one who’s seen them together. As Maisie faces this sudden romantic dilemma, she realizes what she wants most in her life … and faces a question of what her heart wants most, too.

The review:

Another day, another fantastic book that I honestly couldn’t look away from. So you know already how much I adore Laura Briggs’ books, with settings I could fall into, beauty aplenty and just the nicest dousing of quirk!! And so I jumped on this full force, a rugby tackle, if you will, to get my hands on a book I knew I was already in love with (I’m telling you now, run and hide, the gush is about to start …)

We begin, as always, with a letter from the author to the reader.

“Dear Reader, Christmas greetings from the hotel Penmarrow, where twinkling trees and glittering garlands bedeck the halls, and news of a holiday ice sculpting competition adds excitement to the frosty air.”

That’s just the beginning (I feel like leaving you here on a Mic drop but I won’t).

And so we’re back. Christmas is indeed upon us at the hotel but Maisie’s a little preoccupied, not only with the lovely Sidney, who I’m taken with as much as she is, but with her fantastic writing. As well as her previous wip (work in progress) there is also a little aside of an idea for a book/diary type thing that was brilliant in giving us another way of seeing things.

There is, of course, the presence of a mystery, with so many guests to wonder about. And wonder and mull I did!! The comedy was right up my street and I prayed for something to come right for the likable and yet glass-not-very-full Molly.

All in all I’d say get back to the start of this series (And hurry, this book ended on one check of a cliffhanger) and again, you’re welcome for the hours of cosy reading and enjoyment you’ll glean out of this jewel!!

Thanks so much to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for the book in return for an honest review and for letting me be part of the blog tour.

Rating:Again 5 bazillion out of 5!!
