What they say: Molly Baker is living her best life.

Thirty-eight years old, she lives on the twenty-five-acre Hope Farm in Buckinghamshire, surrounded by (mostly) four-legged friends and rolling hills. There’s Anthony the anti-social sheep, Tina Turner the alpaca with attitude, and the definitely-not-miniature pig, Teacup.

Molly runs the farm as an alternative school for kids who haven’t thrived in mainstream education. It’s full on, but she wouldn’t have it any other way. So when the well-groomed Shelby Dacre turns up at Hope Farm asking to enrol his son Lucas, Molly isn’t fazed.

But Lucas is distant and soon Molly realises he might be more of a handful than she anticipated. And then there’s the added problem that his dad is distractingly handsome. Molly has her beloved farm to think of – could letting Lucas and Shelby in be a terrible mistake, or the start of something wonderful?

An absolute must-read from the queen of romance Carole Matthews, Molly’s story will make your heart sing.

The Review: And make your heart sing it will!!! So I requested this book some time ago, and having heard of its loveliness, put it on the long finger until I saw it on Audible and decided to use one of points to grab it. Oh my wordy word!! So I’ll be honest, obviously audio books have only come into my world in the last year, but my have theu opened my world up!! The narrator in this (Emma Powell is listed on Amazon), was stunning, her accent that beautiful English melodic voice that raised an already exceptional book to a higher level, and her different accents for different characters were bang on!!

The book, about Molly Baker, who takes in children who have found mainstream school difficult, was bright and beautiful and quirky and made me think about what it would do for any child to have animals as an integral part of the curriculum. (I regularly consider throwing my 4, who have never been on a horse before and are not really interested in going, into pony camp for a few days. I know they’d come out beaming and of course I’d have fodder for the next book so … hmm, I’m digressing!)

I’ll admit in the middle I was landed with 3 sick kids and so the audio book stopped being an option. As a result I went back to the ebook, which of course was still a stunner. Definitely recommended for just the loveliest, sit forward with mouth shaped into a smile and then an ‘awwww’ read/listen, that will have you wanting to run for the nearest farm to take it over!!! Thanks so much to Netgalley and Sphere for the book in return for an honest review.

  1. Love Carole! 🙂 Glad this one was as lovely as the others. My favouite is still The Cake Shop in the Garden which made me gasp and shout “NO WAY!” at an empty room.
Hope everyone is well now. It’s awful when any of the kids are ill, but when they all get sick at once it’s just the pits and exhausting for Mum! xx
