What they say: WINNER TAKES ALL
Travel blogger Gwen Williams is living the dream–competing in the annual American Board Game Championship. She’s up against some stiff competition, namely legendary gamer and four-time champ Cody McKay. The seriously buff hottie and shameless flirt is going all-out to seduce her. That’s when Gwen lays her cards on the table: She never, ever mixes gaming with romance . . . until resisting Cody becomes a losing proposition.
As Gwen gives in to temptation, everything’s in play for a major heartache. With the rounds heating up and players eliminated, she knows she’s gambling a lot more than a seat at the final table in Vegas. But Cody’s kisses promise more than a fleeting romance. If she plays her cards right, Gwen just might walk off with the championship and the man of her dreams.
The Review: It’s so apt to be reading this as part of The Hungry Readers Games, not only is the author one of the judges, but the book is all about competitive games!!!
Gwen is a travel blogger who, from the start, puts forward a very good case for being on the road (lying between crisp new sheets nightly), but this time she’s off to somewhere even more special, a board game competition!! I loved that we meet her friends and have them accompany us from competition to competition and actually I was very taken with Holly, who was so there for Gwen with so many issues of her own (I’m interestedto see if book 2 followed her friends or herself but either way I’m in!!).
The settings and in particular the competitions and after venues where the girls go to celebrate put you right there, and I spent each moment holding my breath hoping she’d bump into Cody (who was the perfect mix of cocky and cocky to leave you unsure as to what way things would go) or be put together at the same table.
The romance was beautiful, the chemistry sizzling, and the action extremely well done, with more than one ‘what JUST happened’ moment. All in all a series I can’t wait to follow!!
